Romsdal Rando in short

Romsdal Rando is Norway’s largest skimo race, set in the heart of the Norwegian fjords and mountains, in a region with a long and celebrated history of climbing and ski mountaineering.

Romsdal Rando offers a true skimo race for all levels, whether you are a beginner or ready to test your ski mountaineering skills on a highly technical course.

Romsdal Rando is meant to be a race where you can test your abilities and push your limits at every level, while making sound decisions and getting a safe introduction to ski mountaineering.

As part of Romsdal Rando 2027, we will host the ISMF World Championship Long Distance Individual. Elite athletes with an ISMF licence must register in two places: with Romsdal Rando and with ISMF. Please see the ISMF website for details.

IN ROMSDAL RANDO, you can Choose between two competition formats:

Individual

The classical individual format. A mass start in the mountains. Race solo and compete against others. Your ski mountaineering skills will be tested, with nothing to rely on but your own abilities in the mountains.

Team

The team format is the traditional long-distance format in ski mountaineering. Teams of two complete the course together and compete against other teams. Success depends on working as one, making the most of each other's strengths and weaknesses, and making sound decisions to master the course and reach the finish safely.

choose between three courses:

Long course

3000 - 4500 m vertical gain

The ultimate ski race, putting your uphill strength, downhill speed, and technical mountaineering skills to the test. This course is the same as the long distance world championship course.

Medium course

1,800 m vertical gain
15 km.

A slightly shorter version of the long course — still designed to test your technical mountaineering skills.

Short course

850 m vertical gain
8 km

A nice introduction to a proper ski mountaineering race — less technical, but still with the best views of Romsdalen.
